Leopards Win Thriller On Senior Day

La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne men's water polo team hosted Austin College at Las Flores Park for an early Saturday morning matchup. Today's contest also celebrated the final home game of the seniors on the team. Brandon Pham, Gage Unsoeld, and Alam Chang were each recognized for their careers at the University of La Verne before the match started.

Coming off of a double-overtime match in their last home contest, this week's home match would essentially be a replica of the previous home contest. Battling the Kangaroos, the Leopards engaged in a highly competitive and spirited contest from the onset. Leopard James Cano would score the first two goals of the game for La Verne as they would trail 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. La Verne would hit a scoring lull in the second quarter as they managed to find the net only one time, going to halftime trailing by a score of 6-4. Gage Unsoeld and Peter Trinh would will LA Verne back into the contest in the third quarter, each scoring two goals apiece to make the match 11-9 after three quarters. Of the five goals scored in the fourth quarter, senior Alam Chang scored two of them, helping to send the contest into overtime. Both teams would be deadlocked after the first overtime, as they both scored two goals. La Verne and Austin would go scoreless in the second overtime, as the match would still be tied at 15-15.

The match would fittingly end with senior Alam Chang finding the net on a powerplay in the sudden death, propelling the Leopards to a 16-15 victory over the 'Roos.

Peter Trinh led the Leopards with 6 goals scored on the day. Goalie Joe Lamson had 7 saves in the match.

La Verne is back in action on November 9th at Pomona-Pitzer. The game starts at 7:00 PM.
