La Verne To Co-Host Second Annual California Intercollegiate Tourney

The University of La Verne, in conjunction with the Southern California PGA Section (SCPGA) will be hosting the Second Annual California State Intercollegiate Golf Tournament, held September 24-25 at Diamond Valley Golf Club in Hemet.  The tournament features nine intercollegiate golf programs from the NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA collegiate levels.

The two-day event will begin with 36 holes on Monday followed by an 18-hole round to complete action on Tuesday.   The Diamond Valley course has played host to several prestigious tournaments, including PGA qualifiers, Golden State Tour events and numerous SCPGA tournaments.

This year's field includes the host University of La Verne, which is coming of a 14th place finish at last year's NCAA Championship.  The Leopards last played at Diamond Valley in April, when they captured the program's sixth straight Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) crown.

"I'm looking forward to our upcoming tournament and what I believe will be top-notch competition," said University of La Verne golf coach Chris Davis.  "I look forward to see where our team is at this point and see how we fare against other quality teams."

The tournament field also includes NCAA Division II members Cal State San Marcos and Holy Names along with NAIA participants Point Loma Nazarene University, Arizona Christian University, Biola University, The Master's College and Embry Riddle.
This year's field also includes Division I member UC Riverside and former La Verne head coach Eric Riehle, who guided the Leopards to three SCIAC crowns.   "He's not only excited for his current team, but he is also looking forward to seeing many of his former players at La Verne," Davis said.

Established in 1924, the SCPGA was organized to promote the enjoyment and involvement of the game of golf and contribute to its growth by providing competitive playing opportunities, educational seminars, and growth of the game initiatives.
