Golf Moves Into Seventh At NCAA Championships

The University of La Verne golf team jumped two spots in the overall team standings at the NCAA Championships, concluding the third round in seventh place Thursday at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Destin, Florida.

La Verne posted a team total of 300 (+16) at the par 71 Raven course for a three round total of 899 (298-301-300). 

Transylvania leads the team standings at 876 with Texas-Tyler two strokes behind in second place at 878.  Methodist (887) and Illinois Wesleyan (893) hold the third and fourth spots, respectively, with both Emory and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tied for fifth at 896.

Junior Keven Holliday enjoyed the low round for the Leopards in firing an even par 71 (36-35) for his third round.  Senior Derek Zachman carded a 75 (38-37) on Thursday and is currently tied for 13th place among individuals with a three-round total of 221.  Sophomore Kelby Scharmann posted a 76 (37-39) and is tied for 32nd overall at 225 while Holliday sits in 36th place with a total of 226 through three rounds.

Other La Verne competitors include sophomore Trent Twamley and junior Paul Gomez, who posted scores of 78 and 79, respectively, during third round action.  Twamley is tied for 56th at 232 with Gomez sitting in a tie for 66th at 235.

La Verne concludes action at the NCAA Championships on Friday, opening play at approximately 7:00 am Pacific Time.
