Leopards Move Up In National Rankings

The University of La Verne golf team has moved into the Top 10 in two Division III polls as it heads into the SCIAC Championship Tournament next weekend. 

La Verne climbed to No. 8 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches Poll released on April 18 and jumped to No. 9 overall in the latest Golfstat.com Division III Head-To-Head Rankings released on April 17.

In the Golf World/Nike Golf Top 25 Poll, La Verne received a total of 211 points and jumped two spots from its No. 10 position in the previous rankings.  Oglethorpe (321) holds the top spot followed by Methodist (304), Illinois Wesleyan (292), St. John's (283) and Gustavus Adolphus (242) among the Top 5.  Positions 6-10, respectively, include St. Thomas (219), Guilford (214), La Verne, Nebraska Wesleyan (196) with both Emory (189) and Transylvania (189) tied for the 10th spot.

According to Golfstat.com, the Leopards' adjusted scoring average for the season is 75.50 with an average drop score at 79.71 to hold the No. 9 position.  Thus far, La Verne has registered team victories at the SCIAC #1 Tournament (Feb. 23) and the West Cup (March 25-26).  The Leos also posted a seventh place finish against several Top 25 squads at the prestigious Jekyll Island Invitational (March 15-17).

La Verne will next be in action at the SCIAC 54 Hole Championships held April 26-27 at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.  The Leopards are attempting to capture its seventh consecutive league crown.
