Leopards Host Day One Of SCIAC Championships

LA VERNE, CA - La Verne is in ninth place with 2.5 points after the first day of the SCIAC Track & Field Championships which they are hosting in Ortmayer Stadium.  There were six finals on day one - two on the track with the steeplechase and the 10,000 meters and three in the field with the pole vault, long jump, hammer throw and javelin throw.  Alexandra Boutte finished seventh in the javelin throw with a personal best of 96-8.  Devin Spreeman tied for eighth in the pole vault with a personal best jump of 10-0.75 to move up to #8 all-time in La Verne history

Additional competitors in Saturday's finals included Madison Bravo in the 10,000 meters (41:42.93), Kristal Sullivan in the hammer throw (93-5 [personal best]), Alyssa Galiviz (84-4) in the hammer throw, Ha'ani Untalan in the long jump (15-11), Jazzlyn Johnson in the long jump (14-6.5), Valentina Limon in the long jump (13-7.5) and Lydia Torres in the long jump (11-7).

There were preliminary rounds in seven running events on Saturday.  Mira Juncaj qualifed for the final in the 100 meter hurdles with a season best time of 14.94.

Also competing for the Leopards in the preliminaries were:

100 meters: Dawson Bell, 12.77; Kelly Sanchez, 13.37; Limon, 14.11; Naya Alkhouri, 14.52; Torres, 16.03

200 meters: Sanchez, 27.47; Alkhouri, 30.27

800 meters: Destiny Espinoza, 2:52.71 (season best)

1500 meters: Espinoza, 5:38.11 (personal best)

100 hurdles: Johnson, DNF
