La Verne, CA - The tents roared with fans for the La Verne/Whittier Invite on Friday evening. Facing Puget Sound as the last game of the night, La Verne swept the Loggers with a 3-0 series victory.
Leopard junior, Ayana Mier, had a groundbreaking night, with a 46.4% kill percentage, scoring 16 points for La Verne.
Set 1- Puget Sound held the lead at the beginning of the game, with a 14-9 high. La Verne didn't let that score last long, quickly tying up the game at 17-17 before Puget Sound called their first time out, hoping to stop the Leopards in their tracks. With the Leopards on a roll, La Verne attacker Noelani Soma, secured the set (25-22).
Set 2- The scoreboard went back and forth all set long. Leopard, Mya Ray, dominated with 7 kills, leading the Leopards victorious in the second set (25-22).
Set 3- The tents rumbled for the final set of the game, as the fans were ready for the action. La Verne took the lead half way through the set, with five points in a row, striking kills by Mya Ray and Kari Esseff. The last four points of the game were scored by the Leopards, conquering the crowd and winning the game (25-18).
The Leopards will compete in the Trinity Invitational in San Antonio, Texas on Friday and Saturday, September 16th and 17th.
