Cedar City, Utah - The University of La Verne men's basketball team opened up its early season road trip on the road at Southern Utah University.

The Leopards opened their regular season earlier this week with a home victory over Cal Mirimar. Battling the Thunderbirds from the Western Athletic Conference, the Leopards were able to get an early season test against a formidable Division I opponent. La Verne would score the first two points of the game when John Malone II scored on a layup to give La Verne an early lead. The first half would soon prove to be a battle for the Leopards as they sought to put the ball in the hoop amidst the Thunderbirds' pressure defense. The Leopards would enter halftime trailing 54-29.

La Verne would shoot 38% from the three-point arc in the second half and 100% from the free throw line but would not be able to overcome the deficit, falling to Southern Utah by a final score of 117-55.

Brian Adams and John Malone II each led La Verne with 8 points in the contest. Adams also grabbed 4 boards for the Leopards.
