Leopards Fall Short After Close Game Against Beavers

By Cyanna Rosa

LA VERNE, CA- The University of La Verne men's basketball team sought their first win since a monumental overtime win against Caltech two weeks ago. The Beavers headed to The Tents for their rematch.

The Leopards started off the game with strong rushing to the rim and Brian Adams and Kyler Harvey acted as the driving forces of the half, nailing 7 points each. The Beavers had a very obvious offensive playbook, faking it inside the paint to reach an open shooter beyond the arc to drain seven three-pointers in the first half.

Starter and Leopard freshman Tyler Matthews help up against the Beavers' offense with some great mid-court defense towards the end of half. As the Leopards learned the Beavers' consistent and efficient play on their side of the court, the Leopards had a chance in closing the gap heading into halftime, 30-41.

Normal for the Leopards, the men started off the second half great offensively and increased their FG % tremendously. Multiple times throughout the game, the Leopards saw a short one-possession game, especially after an increase in offensive rebounds with five from Brian Adams alone. On the other side of the court, Kyler Harvey was great under the net, rebounding after a Beaver ball nine times throughout the game.

Brian Adams completed the game with 17 points under his belt and one very close half-court shot in hopes to tie the game at the buzzer, but unfortunately the Leopards fell short with a final score, 66-69.

The Leopards head to Claremont M-S next Wednesday, Feb 1st, to start the month strong at 7:00PM PST.
