La Verne, CA - In this afternoon's men's basketball matchup, the University of La Verne took on visiting Willamette University. The game was the second home contest of the season for the Leopards.
Both teams battled in the first half as the Leopards maintained the pace of the game with offensive execution and defensive stops. Williamette would compete valiantly in the opening half, but the Leopards lead going into the half 39-37.
In the second half, the game would go back and forth as both teams made runs and countered each other with key stops and key scores. Late in the second half La Verne made one final run having four straight steals, bringing the game within three points. Ultimately time would expire on the Leopards as they would fall to the Bearcats 86-81.
Kyler Harvey led the Leopards with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Tavares James was efficient for La Verne coming off the bench scoring 14 points in the same amount of minutes. Tyler Matthews led all players with four takeaways in the game.
The Leopard's next game will be an away conference opener vs. Cal Lutheran on November 30th at 7:00 PM.
