Leopards Host Baldwin Wallace

La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne softball team welcomed the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace University to the University of La Verne Softball Stadium for doubleheader action.

The first game of the doubleheader would open with both teams going scoreless in the first inning. La Verne would get on the scoreboard for the first time of the game in the second inning when Marissa Acosta hit a home run, giving the Leopards a 1-0 lead. Acosta would score again in the 4th inning when Leopard Cassandra Zapata  would single, bringing her home. La Verne would score 5 runs in the 5th inning, giving the Leopards an 8-0 lead and the eventual victory by a final score of 8-0.

Acosta would score 3 runs in the game to go with 2 RBIs. Pitcher Rachel Rubio pitched 5 innings, throwing 51 strikes with 2 strikeouts.

The second game of the doubleheader would be a defensive battle. Haylee Hsieh would score a run in the 1st innning, but the Leopards would be unable to connect again, falling 5-1, to split on the day. Hsieh would also have 2 stolen bases in the game.

The Leopards return to action on Tuesday, March 7th against Buena Vista.
