Leopards Travel To Whittier For Double Header Action

Whittier, CA - The University of La Verne softball team took on the Whittier Poets as they continued the series after taking a loss at home.

The Leopards took on the Poets after defeating Williams College in a series. The Leopards would continue the series with the evenly-matched Poets as they battled for the fifth seed in the SCIAC standings.

Both teams would end game one with eight hits, but La Verne would struggle to score, only bringing in two of the eight. Isabella Bastien and Haylee Hsieh would go 2-3 for the game. Jalylene Jaloma and Mia Pintado would get a hit in their at-bat for the game. Rachel Rubio would add a loss to her record, as she faced 27 batters; 55 of her 69 pitches would be strikes. She would pitch six innings and allow four runs as the Leopards were defeated 4-2 by the Poets.

For game two, the Leopards would get to an evenly matched game until the third inning, in which five scores were allowed. The Leopards would struggle to score after the Poets run and ultimately fell 7-2. La Verne would allow ten hits to their five and an error count of 3-2 in favor of the Leopards. Cassandra Zapata would get a hit on her only at-bat, and Marrisa Acosta would go .500 for the game. La Verne would see three different pitchers in game two. The Leopards would not bring in a score in their final four innings, getting swept by the Poets.

The Leopards will host Claremont Mudd Scripps Friday, April 7th, at 3. P.M. for their next home game.
