La Verne, CA - The University of La Verne softball team hosted Buena Vista University for doubleheader action at the University of La Verne Softball Stadium.
From the onset, the Leopards jumped on the visiting Beavers with an energy and intensity that was evident in the entire team. A first-inning RBI by Isabella Garcia would lead to a score by Haylee Hsieh to give the Leopards their first points of the game. RBIs by Ashley Rodriguez and Erika Garcia would lead to two more Leopard scores in the opening inning of play, giving them a 3-1 lead. The Leopards would hold Buena Vista scoreless the rest of the game and would score 11 more runs, including a third inning which would see them score 5 runs (Erika Garcia, Haylee Hsieh, Isabella Garcia, Clarissa Salazar, Taylor Gray) as they would win the first game by a score of 14-3. Isabella led the Leopards with 5 RBIs in the game while Taylor Gray added 4 RBIs. Rachel Rubio pitched four innings and had 4 strikeouts.
The Leopards started off the second game with hot bats, as they would shut the Beavers out in the first inning and score 4 runs to take an early 4-0 lead. Jocelyn Robertson would pitch for the Leopards in the second game and would throw 2 strikeouts in 4.2 innings played. Cailin Bliss and Haylee Hsieh would each score runs in the final inning of play to seal the victory 7-3.
The Leopards return to action at home on March 8th against Manhattanville.
