Leopards Fall Short Against Bulldogs

By Monica Garcia Silva

The University of La Verne softball team traveled to Redlands to take on the Bulldogs for game three of their conference series. Both teams entered the third game of the series tied 1-1, and the Leopards looked to take the series after having to wait to complete it due to a weather postponement in early March.

Neither team scored through three innings. But the Bulldogs got hot in the fourth, bringing in four runs. The Leopards had four costly errors, allowing three unearned runs for the game. La Verne had no problem getting on base with eight total hits for the game, but only managed to get one across home plate. Final score of game three was La Verne 1, Redlands 4.

Erika Garcia went perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3 - hinting at her SCIAC hitter of the week award earlier this week. Haylee Hsieh added two more stolen bases to her year total, making it 28 and continuing her status as Conference leader in the category. Rachel Rubio faced 25 batters, throwing 79 pitches, of which 61 were strikes.

La Verne will travel to Occidental College Friday, April 14th, for a 3 PM matchup against the Tigers.
